Øygarden Kulturgard: A journey through time and cultural heritage

Øygarden Kulturgard has a rich history stretching back to the Middle Ages, where it has been an important hub for culture and society. Today, the farm stands as a living monument, where visitors can experience the authentic atmosphere and learn about our shared cultural heritage.

History of Øygarden

In the north of Gudbrandsdalen, at the foot of Rondane in Kristin Lavrandsdatter's kingdom, the farm Øygarden is freely and beautifully situated on a small hill overlooking Selsbygden. There has been a settlement here since before the Black Dawn and the farm is still referred to as a medieval farm.

Øygarden consists of a historic and authentic tun from the 18th century. The sun-dappled buildings frame a period style in and out, with their10 buildings that were listed in 1923.

The beautiful buildings still stand still and keep up with events and the course of families, a good and peaceful atmosphere provides an opportunity to dwell on the past and take history in.

Here, there have been both small and great events throughout the ages, good and bad years have replaced each other, people and animals have worked hard and faithfully, and the responsibility has been on the shoulders of each generation.

“Ipsum sit mattis nulla quam nulla. Pregnant id gravid ac enim mauris id. Non pellentesque congue own consequtetur turpis. Sapien, dictum molestie sem tempor. Silent elite, orci, tincidunt aenean tempus.”

The fact that we can live and live here today is thanks to the efforts, work and knowledge of all before us. Now it's our turn to take care of Øygarden, we know both the responsibility and the joy.

Welcome in!

Vi flytter inn

Our history and background

The host at Øygarden kulturgård consists of Christine Bugjerde and Freddy Bagge. We are a musician couple who were both born and raised in Oslo.

We have worked as freelance musicians and educators ever since we met as students at the Oslo Conservatory of Music. Christine is a cellist and Freddy is a clarinetist. In addition, he is an instrument repairman and the operator and owner of Hornaas Music in Oslo. We have 4 adult daughters and currently 5 grandchildren.

Øygarden came up for sale in 2018, and we were both overwhelmed and amazed when we entered the yard for the first time. Many ideas emerged and we saw opportunities to be able to continue as musicians and cultural mediators, but in a new arena. The choice we made has proved successful, and after countless hours of work, the farm today emerges as both a cultural arena and a traditional farm.

Much of the work on the development of the farm is made possible by close and good cooperation with the county representatives and the national antiquarian.
